The Conservancy’s onsite recycling of soil biology screens stockpiled mulch to produced native, nutrient-rich compost for specific Park projects, resulting in a significant ‘economic win’ for an ongoing capital improvement that was in need of soil amendments to support the ecological restoration of a highly degraded site. Construction activities revealed that the native soil of the Park lacked the necessary nutrients and has a poor structure. The necessary addition of compost for revegetation efforts was critical but costly. By taking advantage of this rich resource on-site, MPC is saving money that can be spent on other enhancements.
